Narrated by Gary Robinson
Sixty-two years ago, in 1962, the future seemed extremely fragile. In October 1962, Soviet missile bases were discovered in Cuba. This became known as The Cuban Missile Crisis. It was a direct and dangerous confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. It occurred during the Cold War, creating the moment when the world’s two superpowers came very close to nuclear conflict. On a more pleasant note, it’s also the year my little brother Thomas was born. And the year I started kindergarten. Which means I was able to watch the very first episode of The Jetsons! It aired on ABC on September 23, 1962.
For those oblivious to The Jetsons, it was a cartoon set in the year 2062. It revolved around a family named the Jetsons. George and Jane were the parents of Judy and Elroy. They had a very friendly dog named Astro. And their robot maid Rosey. There’s a multitude of memes about how this show predicted the future. Most notable were online classes, facetime, video calling, wearable technology, robotics, and even smart homes.
According to the Jetsons, Dogs will stand like humans by the year 2062
However, not even The Jetsons predicted the future event happening on February 2. Apple store shelves will be stocked with the extremely anticipated Apple Vision Pro. Pre-orders began at 5 am PST on Friday, January 19. And pre-order numbers are reported to be between 160,000 to 180,000 units! Staggering numbers for a tech device retailing from $3499 to $3899. I’ll let you do the math. Just a few days ago, I watched the latest full video on this otherworldly marvel of technology. And I was blown away! I wanted one immediately. This is coming from a guy who kept his iPhone 6 until last year. Don’t judge me!
Apple Vision Pro’s features are staggering. Even the lenses of the AVP goggles are unique. Not only can you see your room through the goggles, but people can also see your face through the goggles. You navigate using your eyes, hands, and voice. There will be over a million apps available from the Apple Store. Apple Vision Pro utilizes Extended Reality. Extended Reality(XR), includes Augmented Reality(AR), Mixed Reality(MR), Virtual Reality(VR), and any new technology situated at any point of the virtuality continuum.
How will Apple Vision impact the current VR landscape
All of this looks and sounds amazing. And yes I was wowed. Crazy pre-order numbers. Endless hype. Enticing videos. But if you step back for a minute into the reality of life, why do we race to buy the newest, shiniest piece of technology? Sure, it’s cool to have it first. But that’s just ego. Will it make us happier or healthier? Will it improve our relationships? Will it increase our knowledge and empathy? Will it help solve society’s ills? Or will it lead to even more isolation? More childhood obesity? Distraction from obligations and growth. Living life more virtually than in reality. Do we need a million apps?
I believe that just like the internet and social media, it’s neither good nor bad. It’s how you choose to use it. Technology is just a tool. Perhaps someone can immerse themselves in Extended Reality: find a cure for cancer, diabetes, or blindness. Create even safer football helmets to eliminate concussions. Or make gluten-free bread that doesn’t taste like cardboard. Investing in technology can be life-changing. Safer and less invasive surgeries, more fuel-efficient vehicles, electric vehicles, home security, and communication. The list is endless.
Extended Reality is extremely useful for Medical Tech
However, even The Jetsons knew that family and friends were the most important things. Even though they had a robot maid, flying cars and numerous forms of technology. Nothing can replace human interaction. Seeing your friends on video will never compare to hanging out with them at a party. But, when you’re in different states or countries, being able to video chat is a blessing.
Congratulations Apple on your incomparable Apple Vision Pro. Here at Medallion XLN, we also have a vision. A vision to enable creators to profit, own, and regulate how their work is viewed and shared through blockchain technology. One of Apple’s core values states that “We are here to make a positive difference in society, as well as make a profit.” Medallion XLN is in step with that same core value. And if Apple would choose to invest some of its profit into helping Medallion XLN secure a foothold in helping creatives, in every area of expertise, keep ownership while profiting from their creation, we would be extremely appreciative. And so would they. Please contact us to learn more about how we plan to make our vision a reality. Now put down your device and hug somebody. Just don’t be weird about it.
