“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” - Elon Musk
Where does Elon Musk get the time? I work from home doing an 8-hour gig. It’s a cushy tech job where my responsibilities are to build high-performance UI components. I barely have any time to both work that job and maintain this newsletter. When I’m promoting this newsletter, it takes a minimum of 1 hour to post to all the social media platforms; Substack, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Medium, Tumblr & Instagram on the weekends. So you’re telling me, that the CEO of a Spaceship company, an Electric Car company, a company that reads thoughts, and a company that has Satellites orbiting the Earth providing Wi-Fi…has enough time left in the day to be a professional shit-poster on Twitter? I don’t buy it, sorry, I just don’t. Elon Musk has clones doing his work for him. Either that or Androids. Maybe he cloned his consciousness into an OpenAI Artificial Intelligence construct using Neuralink, and now each node of himself is running a different company. I just don’t buy that he has that much time on his hands. How does he have so much time to do all these important tasks and run all these amazing tech companies? Unless…That’s it! He has a hot tub time machine! Can someone acquainted with Elon Musk pull a WikiLeaks? Keep all the confidential stuff, just expose his time management techniques. Where is Alex Jones when you need him? Oh, yea. Doesn’t Elon have kids and multiple ex-wives? His schedule should be packed, yet he still has time to troll us on Twitter. How??!!!
Elon Musk is now offering to buy Twitter * head explodes. Is this another troll? You can’t buy Twitter, Elon, you already own a Spaceship company, Gosh! I’m convinced that this is his greatest troll. Elon Musk is somewhere sitting with Jack Dorsey, laughing his ass off. I mean $43 billion dollars? I have no idea how much money that even is, but it sounds low…for Twitter? On paper, he’s offering about $5 billion over the market price, but for a hostile takeover, it should be more, right? I have no idea how any of this is supposed to work. The response from conservative media is all praises. Could this be their opportunity to get back their God-King, Donald Trump? I’m searching desperately to come up with an angle that isn’t already covered by the billions of articles covering this topic. The only unique angle that I could come up with for this article was, “Elon Musk is trolling us again” but also, “Based on his track record, could Elon Musk bring Twitter to the next level?” I’ll go with the latter.
First, let’s analyze Twitter’s strengths & weaknesses. Twitter has held the title of being the digital town square for almost 2 decades. Professionals in general and journalists, in particular, find Twitter to be a useful way to source information directly from its source. Former President Donald Trump was the first President to basically issue Executive Orders via tweet. Bots are programmed to make stock market trades based on tweets posted about buys and sells. Trends are created, revolutions are fought, powerful people are exposed and lives are changed daily on Twitter. The weaknesses of Twitter seem to be twofold. The first is that they have developed an activist culture that seems more intent on policing who gets to have a voice than on innovating on their technology. This activist culture at Twitter, on the surface, is the reason why the company finds itself in this predicament. Musk, if he isn’t just being a giant troll, can hide behind the notion of “Freedom Of Speech” while attempting this hostile takeover. By becoming too political, Twitter shot itself in the foot, losing the support of half the country while gaining the support of the other half. The political right would usually hate everything that Elon Musk stands for, but because they view him as an ally, they worship the ground he walks on. It’s interesting to watch.
Facebook & Twitter were conceived around the same time and focused on a similar niche market. Where Twitter has been stagnant on its core functionality, choosing to focus on it’s original use-case. Facebook, has been innovating and acquiring its competitors. Now Facebook call themselves Meta and lead the development of the Metaverse. Twitter, on the other hand, barely changed from what it was a decade ago.
Now let’s analyze Elon Musk and whether he is a good fit for Twitter. Let me reiterate that I don’t think that this purchase is anything more than a troll. Elon Musk owns a Spaceship company and leads the development of Electric Car technology worldwide. All his companies are a Sci-Fi writer’s wet dream. Twitter is…so boring in comparison. Elon’s companies are successful, so I can’t use his trolling as a reason to argue that he would not be a good leader for Twitter. Honestly, the prospect of Elon Musk providing innovation & visionary ideas to Twitter is very exciting. The only thing I can speculate on is why Elon Musk is making this move? Maybe it’s an elaborate way to boost Tesla stock? Maybe this is his new strategy to pump Dogecoin. I honestly don’t know.
